iPhone vs. iPad vs. Nexus One Android & Flash Support
Apple’s decision to not support Adobe’s Flash Player in it’s iPhone and iPad technologies will certainly be a major obstacle in consumer’s minds when it comes down to deciding if it, or Google’s Nexus One, will become the object of our desires and affection.
Whether you believe Apple’s reasoning behind their decision is that, the Adobe Flash Player is too resource hungry for Apple’s operating system causing the entire operating system to crash, or the controversy that Apple has merely opted to exclude Flash in an attempt to maintain control of it’s developer network is not important for us as developers, at least for the short term
Although the iPad will be operating on a 1Ghz Intel chip and Google’s Nexus One on a 1Ghz Qualcomm chip, Google Nexus One’s Android operating system is multi-tasking enabled whereas Apple’s operating system is not. I will be interested to see the performance and stability of Flash applications on the Nexus One’s operating system, particularly if the user is multi-tasking.
So, what does this mean to us as web developers, and for our clients wishing to reach critical mass with their web presence? Clearly, a standards compliant XHTML / Java Script implementation would certainly minimize any compatibility issues when it comes to web development for hand held devices, and with the advance in popular Java Script libraries, such as jQuery, we should be able to achieve similar animation effects that Flash provides.
The next time one of your clients come to you requesting a super-dooper Flash site, let them know the pro’s and con’s associated with choosing this media.

Standards compliant development is becoming more and more important with platform diversification
